Welcome

Welcome to NursingWiki. As our project started yesterday, there is a lot of work to do :-) Please consider writing a new article.

Publication language

Shell we list publications in languages different to english ? (see Angelika Zegelin) Or shell we list english publications, only ? --Produnis 20:10, 2 May 2006 (CEST)

I think we should list the german articles too... Zegelin (for example) is a german nursing scientist. and so it is normal that she publishs in german. And for international wiki-users it may be interesting to see what she publishs in germany...Mennfield 20:22, 2 May 2006 (CEST)
but those internationals may visit the german article of Zegelin (it's interwiki-linked!)... Imagine: You have an article about a chinese-scientist... is it useful to list all chinese articles (看護を学問的に支えるのが看護学であり) or just the english ;-)? --Produnis 16:47, 3 May 2006 (CEST)
As per the discussion below in Wikipedia vs. NursingWiki, shouldn't articles about nursing theorists be placed primarily in Wikipedia?--CxLxMx 17:03, 8 March 2008 (CET)

Wikipedia vs. NursingWiki

I presume this area can be used for discussion? I've contributed to quite a few of the nursing related pages on Wikipedia - how many of them do you want copied onto here? What is seen as being different about NursingWiki & why should people use this site rather than the more famous predecessor? Rodw 20:49, 20 June 2006 (CEST)

Hi Rodw... well, NursingWiki was started because Wikipedia articles are limited to encyclopedic entries. For this reason articles containing specific instructions (for example for setting up a nursing plan) are not appropriate for Wikipedia entries. If you want to copy your nursing-articles from Wikipedia to here, please use the template {{WikipediaCopy|ARTICLENAME}}... --Produnis 09:29, 21 June 2006 (CEST)
I am very new to this as I haven't posted to a wiki since Wikipedia stopped allowing anonymous changes. I'm not really sure if I'm using this project page correctly, etc... That said, I have a very clear idea about how NursingWiki can and should be different from Wikipedia. (Of course, you might not agree with me at all.) First, NursingWiki should not duplicate Wikipedia since that would just be inefficient and silly. Second, NursingWiki should let Wikipedia present nursing-as-a-profession to the world at large because Wikipedia has a larger audience, is already well-established, and attracts lots of non-specialist readers. Third, while NursingWiki's function can be to present nursing information free to the world, its mode should be to provide information for, not about, nurses or information from a nursing perspective. For example, an article on colecystectomy in Wikipedia should not contain information about nursing interventions as that is too narrow for a general encyclopedia article, but an article in NursingWiki should provide information on typical complications, appropriate nursing assessments, nursing diagnoses, interventions, etc. By providing information that is for nursing, the whole world will have access to nursing knowledge. Fourth, following from number three, NursingWiki should strive to provide citations for its information as much as possible and be an evidence-based publication. --CxLxMx 4 March 2008
Hi CxLxMx, you are right in how NursingWiki should differ from Wikipedia. NursingWiki was started because Wikipedia articles are limited to encyclopedic entries. For this reason articles containing specific instructions (for example for setting up a nursing plan) are not appropriate for Wikipedia entries. Thats why NursingWiki aims to provide information for - not about - nursing and nurses. --Produnis 15:18, 6 March 2008 (CET)

Content: general

Question: I don't know anything about nursing laws, nursing theory, or nursing practice in other nations. Obviously, since there are different NursingWiki sites for German, etc., it doesn't make sense for the English site to refer to German nursing, but what about UK, Australia, Canada, USA...? Do other English-speaking countries have anything like the NANDA nursing diagnoses that are used in the USA? Do other countries use the same assessment-diagnosis-plan-intervention-evaluation model?--CxLxMx 00:52, 7 March 2008 (CET)

The "en" in http://en.nursingwiki.org/wiki/Village_pump stands for "english", just like in Wikipedia's english version. Therefore a german version of this wiki would b e http://de.nursingwiki.org and be entirely in German.

Organization: general

Organization: Main_Page vs. Community Portal vs. Village Pump

Idea: The other day, I was having trouble figuring out what is on NursingWiki, so I looked over at Wikipedia. Looking at Wikipedia, it made me think that these three pages (Main_Page, Community Portal, Village Pump) should be defined and maybe re-organized a little. Currently, Main_Page has a lot of information for NursingWiki community members, but not as much information for NursingWiki users. Also, the Community Portal is being used only as a discussion forum. Also, the Village Pump is being used as a duplicate discussion forum. Here's my idea, based on Wikipedia:

  • Village Pump: this should be the discussion forum for community members.
  • Community Portal: this should not be a discussion forum. It should be a place to get information for community members about articles to be edited, tasks to be completed, etc. A lot of this information is currently on Main_Page
  • Main_Page: this should not include primarily information for community members. It should be a place for NursingWiki users to get an idea of what articles are in NursingWiki. Currently, it is hard to get started in looking at NursingWiki articles because it is hard to see how the articles are organized. Maybe Main_Page should be simplified a little... in addition to a welcome message and a few general links, it could have just a list of categories and a list of articles. Some of the information that is there now about needed articles, etc. could be moved to Community Portal.

What does anyone think?--CxLxMx 17:46, 8 March 2008 (CET)

Organization: Category Nursing

I've created a few categories eg Nursing theory, British Nurses etc in creating some new articles & noticed you have a category "Nursing" - surely all the articles are going to be in that category so it seems a bit pointless? Rodw 18:16, 21 June 2006 (CEST)

Well done... ;-) I have put them as a sub-category into Category:Nursing... --Produnis 19:03, 21 June 2006 (CEST)pool:Village pump
