A Congestive Heart Failure is a condition in which the heart is unable to pump enough blood to maintain adequate blood circulation to the body.

classification

  • Class 1: ordinary physical activities doesn’t cause symptoms
  • Class 2 ordinary physical activities cause fatigue, papl., dyspnea or angina, but asymptomatic at rest.
  • Class 3: less than ordinary physical activities cause symptoms ( see above) , but asymptomatic at rest.
  • Class 4: Unable to perform any physical activity without symptoms and symptoms may be present when at rest.

causes

Possible causes & what you will see

  • ↑BP, diabetes,CAD, valvular disease
  • LFT-sided-↑HR, SOB, ↓O2, pale, cool & tingling in extremities,pulmanary edema & frothy pink sputum
  • R-sided: edema in the lower extremities
  • Both fatigue, anxiety, weakness, SOB, LOC, juglar vein distention, ↑CV, Women: Nausea

Immediate intervention


Assessment

  • VS , HR & LS
  • O2
  • Edema


Stabilizing & monitoring

  • Monitor I&O, wt
  • Restrict fluids
  • obtain order →Place IV( Gage 18)
  • VS & O2
  • ECG


Labs

  • Chem 7 , CXR, BUN, Creatinine,Tripionin, ABGs
