Evidence based practice is the use of best reported evidence in the literature in combination with individual clinical experience in order to treat a patient.

Individual clinical expertise is the proficiency and judgement that individual clinicians acquire through clinical experience and clinical practice.

Evidence based practice is “an approach that enables clinicians to provide the highest quality of care in meeting the multifaceted needs of their patients and families” (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2005, p. 3). Basically it is expected of physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to refer to the latest findings in healthcare in providing care for their patients. This expectation is a standard in Magnet healthcare institutions. The nurses are required to continue their education in order to comply with Magnet necessitly of patient care.
